About LKDT

Lake Kyoga Development Trust (LKDT) is a member-based organization registered in Uganda as a corporate body in 2018 under the Trustees incorporation Act, Cap. 165. LKDT was formed to benefit the communities of Uganda by pursuing the following objectives;

  • To redress social exclusion (through empowering individuals, groups, communities and local enterprise)
  • To redress financial exclusion (through local procurement, financial intermediation, advice, training and job creation)
  • To generate wealth (through developing agricultural, financial, social and property enterprises)
  • To protect the environment (through recycling, tree planting and preservation of historic as well as heritage sites)
  • To empower the youth (through advancement of sports, education and training, arts and culture, recreation and enhancement of environment, social and economic wellbeing)
  • To mobilize and sensitize masses on regional and continental integration.

Renewable Energy and Clean drinking water

This project area strives to promote use of renewable energy like energy saving stoves, solar power and biogas in schools, health centres and rural households. We also promote use of clean drinking water in schools, health centres and rural households.

Agriculture and Economic Development

This project area strives to improve food and nutrition security and economic resilience of the rural poor. This is done through implementation of agricultural projects, promoting income generating activities and financial literacy using Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) methodology.

Education and Social protection

We promote Education (for the youth and children), Human Rights, democratic governance and rule of law. We foster to empower civil society to take up their roles so that social rights of Orphans, vulnerable children and women are protected.

Managing fisheries for sustainability and resilience: The case of L. Kyoga

Yet fisheries across the world are under threat from climate change and over-exploitation. The question of how best to manage fisheries under these conditions is a complex one, but in our experience, bringing communities into inclusive governance structures is an indispensable part of the solution.
